Rehabilitation and Therapy Services

NHC’s comprehensive rehabilitation services are a significant part of our dedication to the concept of total patient management. Through continuing education programs, our licensed therapists are able to provide treatment using the most current techniques and methodologies available. Our inpatient and outpatient services provide treatment to adults with all types of injuries, illnesses, and disabilities. We also have a Pediatric Outpatient Clinic that provides therapy services to infants, children, and youth of all ages.

PHYSICAL THERAPY provides rehabilitation services that help to restore function, improve mobility, manage pain, as well as aid in the prevention or limitation of disabilities as a result of injury or disease. Physical therapists use electrical stimulation, hot and cold therapy, massage, and other physical and electrical modalities to reduce pain and increase range of motion. They also teach mobility training using prostheses, wheelchairs, canes, crutches, and walkers. Physical therapy is an appropriate intervention for cerebrovascular accidents (i.e. strokes), orthopedic injuries and surgeries, developmental delays, etc.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY helps patients regain as much independence as possible with self-care and activities of daily living, upper extremity function, and perceptual/cognitive abilities. Our occupational therapy services provide activities of daily living retraining utilizing compensatory techniques and adaptive devices as needed. Upper extremity therapeutic exercise and activities are also used to encourage range of motion, strengthening, and coordination for patients who have experienced a CVA (stroke), orthopedic injury, surgery, etc. Hand therapy and splinting are also provided for upper extremities. Occupational therapy can also utilize ultrasound, paraffin, or hot and cold packs to assist the therapeutic process.

SPEECH THERAPY helps patients overcome communication conditions such as aphasia, swallowing difficulties, and voice disorders. Our speech therapists will conduct evaluations and therapy for speech/language disorders, dysphagia, voice or audiological disorders, while also utilizing augmentative communication and aural rehabilitation as needed.

RESPIRATORY THERAPY assists patients with breathing difficulties to reduce fatigue and increase tolerance in performing daily activities. Our respiratory therapist also manages the care for patients who are receiving Oxygen by mask and/or nasal canula, or receiving any other form of breathing related treatments.
